Deviation Actions
I've been meaning to write this for a few weeks now. Early last month hailed the 1st Annual Iowa G.I. Joe Fans/Collectors Meet-Up entitled "Assembly Required" in which the turnout was leaps and bounds better than predicted. The significance of this is for our purposes here (because my being a huge G.I. Joe nerd isn't entirely relevant to the art I post on DA) is that they were hosting a custom action figure contest.
Because I am something of a friend to the person who organized this, and asked if it were possible for me to simply display some of my customs to get some real-world feedback. Since it depended on if there were spare tables available, he said to bring them and we would see. Turns out I ended up with a whole table, when I was originally hoping just to get half of one at least. I was also able to display close to 50 of my custom figures, as well as enter one in the contest. There are some that were on display that I've yet to post here, sorry about that to those that care (I'll work on it during the holiday break). I got many great compliments on my work, most notably someone asking how much they were. Not even even knowing for sure if I would be able to showcase them, left me quite unprepared to sell any, I hadn't even thought about that as a possibility in all honesty. When I replied that they were not currently for sale (I know, but I was woefully unprepared for this development) he followed up with "when will they be?" My response was that is at a yet-to-be-determined date. He seemed rather crestfallen at that. Personally, I am going to just chalk that up to being the ultimate compliment rather then dwell on the negative.
Anyway, the point of this post is to say that one of the figures in the contest was this one: fav.me/d3klpy7 and he won, big time. Mind you, the table displaying the contest entries was, while not packed tight, not a small amount of contestants. Additionally, this was not one of my crappy pictures being judged on an internet forum contest, either. This was a situation where people see it up close, flaws and all, and judge from there.
I suppose this means I can refer to my customs as "Award Winning", right? I am not entirely sure how much I am joking with that, I mean it is a representative of my work. However, I do feel a bit egocentric to assume that one contest win of one figure accounts for the status of a larger body of work. How does this sort of thing go? I mean when an actor gets an Oscar nomination, even for a supporting role, they are an Oscar nominated actor for the rest of their acting career, no matter what bullshit they are in from that point on, right? Am I over-analyzing this? Maybe so.
The point is, I'm a winner! Yay me!

In Typical Fashion...
I am going to apologize for the delay between posts. However, I just posted a whole crap-load of new stuff for you dear watchers out there. I know it's been a while, but I hope it has been at least a little bit of worth the wait.
Thanks to all of you patient ones out there and thanks to anyone bothering to read this. You guys are awesome!
So, I've been busy with the new job and new place and my internet connection is, shall we say, less than reliable for the time being. But aside from the various hardships, I'm doing well enough.
I guess that's all for now. Until the next...
Llamas
I will be the first to admit that I'm not entirely clear what the deal is with these "Llama badges" but the truth is, I don't think it matters. These little buggers are fun.
The way I see it I finally have something within my budget to send as thanks to all of the wonderful people that have been willing to watch out for my stuff, even though I'm ridiculously slow about posting new things. You lot really rock for being so supportive, and patient.
So, enjoy the little Llama from me as my all-too-small thanks! You all have earned that and much more.
